The business advisor service is funded by the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership and Groundwork East of England, working together to support growth in the low carbon economy and help Suffolk create the greenest county.

Many SMEs have already benefited from this free service :
Gotelee & Goldsmith, Ipswich
Local solicitors firm, Gotelee & Goldsmith has already won work as a result of its environmental policy. It is not a policy that sits in a folder somewhere unloved and ignored but one that has been enthusiastically translated into action by all the staff.

The business advisor visited their office, analysed their energy use and helped them develop an action plan with tough but achievable benchmarks to aim for. Over the last year, Gotelee & Goldsmith has achieved a 16% saving in its energy use and costs just by implementing the simple, low cost actions recommended. The firm is continuing to work through its action plan and has now switched its energy supply to a green tariff at no extra cost.

Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery
Working with the business advisor, the Art Gallery identified where they were using their energy and where they could make the biggest savings. As a result, they developed an ‘Action Plan’, setting themselves an ambitious target of a 50% cut in waste and a 43% reduction in carbon over 2008 (equivalent to 14 tonnes of carbon dioxide). Actions ranged from ‘no cost’ measures such as their energy saving campaign to bigger capital investment projects like the loft insulation.

Alison Plumridge, Director of Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery, believes there is much more to the project than just helping the environment, “We believe there will be a cost saving of about £2,300 which allows the Gallery to offer free entry for visitors to all its exhibitions. So everybody benefits.”
